Aadhaar
Aadhaar is an individual identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on behalf of the Government of India to individuals for the purpose of establishing the unique identity of every single person. It will serve as a proof of identity and address anywhere in India.
Interesting Facts About AADHAAR
- Aadhaar card has a 12 digit unique identification number which stores demographic (residence address information) and biometric information (photograph, iris-scan, fingerprints) of the resident with photograph.
- Aadhaar number is a 12 digit unique identification number which never starts with '0' and '1'. The last digit of the Aadhaar number is a check sum digit.
- Each Aadhaar number issued will be unique to an individual and will remain valid for lifetime.
- After Aadhaar card is received, individual needs to submit an application along with a copy of the Aadhaar Card to the bank branch where he/she is maintaining an account. Bank will link the account making the account as Aadhaar Enabled Bank Account (AEBA).
- Aadhaar Payment Bridge (APB) System is a unique payment system implemented by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which uses Aadhaar number as a central key for electronically channelizing the Government subsidies and benefits in the Aadhaar Enabled Bank Accounts (AEBA) of the intended beneficiaries.

- Aadhaar serves as a proof of identity and address, anywhere in India.
- Aadhaar is meant for individuals of any age (including children) for the purpose of establishing identities.
- An individual will be provided with only one unique Aadhaar number and not multiple unique ID numbers.
- Aadhaar number will be valid for the full life of an individual and does not need to be changed or renewed from time-to-time.
- A person can get his/her Aadhaar number free of cost.
- The Aadhaar number can be used while opening a bank account, applying for passport, booking e-tickets and many other places where there is a need to establish identity.
